“Beautiful! Sensual, seductive and archetypal.”

Design Times Magazine

Christopher Easton’s art, like the artist himself, is an enigma. On the one hand he has quickly become known for his use of powerful imagery, vivid colors, explosive energy, vibrant sensuality, passion and emotion. Images of lightning bolts, stampeding horses, and even sacrificial victims being devoured by hyenas embody his works. But his pieces can also capture a perfect quiet moment, a tranquil gesture, a serene examination of a stoic human figure or a tiny bird at rest. His imagery spans the field from the freest expressionism and abstraction to the most controlled and formal realism. But the bold brush stroke, incensed splash of color, and carefully drafted hint of shadow come not from the use of oils or acrylics, but from the precise application of antique Venetian glass, twenty-four karat gold, sterling silver, mother-of-pearl, Carrera marble, and semi-precious gems. For Christopher Easton has revived the classical art of the mosaic.

“Christopher Easton’s mosaics can’t be fully appreciated until they’re experienced in person. The luminescence, the textures – not to mention such an original use of a classic artform – create a gestalt that is just marvelous to behold!”

And he has made it very much his own. For years Easton experimented with numerous artforms, eventually specializing in the large acrylics on canvas that have made his work so valued by collectors throughout the U.S. and Europe. But his lifelong fascination with Roman and Byzantine mosaics finally inspired him to create contemporary works using this classical medium that has brought out the pure artist within him. For despite the visual and intellectual power of his pieces and the fascinated and inspired reactions viewers of his works have shown, it is the slow, demanding, labor-intensive and very hands-on nature of mosaics that has stirred his passions. Easton says, “I think it’s the methodical, tactile nature of mosaics that I love so much. The fierce concentration and quiet solitude I surround myself with as I work brings me almost to a state of Zen. There is an incredible fulfillment I feel when I complete each piece.”

"Glass demands an artist provide equal doses of artistry, vision, craftsmanship and patience to lift it to its full potential. Christopher Easton does just that. The result– stunning mosaics that instantly take you to an alternate time and place. We're extremely proud to be able to offer this fine work to our collectors."

“Mr. Easton’s works are like the finest paintings, but more eternal.”

And Easton’s audiences are reacting to his passion for the artform also. His mosaics have become extremely popular among critics, well-heeled collectors, and Hollywood celebrities with a taste for the dramatic not merely in their work, but on their walls as well. Film actors Tim Curry and the late Roddy McDowell, Cynthia Watros of television’s Titus, actor/director Martin Donovan, and producer/director Dan Ireland are among the celebrities who have collected Christopher Easton’s works. Recently his pieces were featured on E!’s Celebrity Homes.

“Lovely and sublime. His works are like visual Haikus.”

The intense public reaction to his mosaics has meant that Easton’s works have been on exhibition in galleries throughout the United States almost continuously for the past three years. His works are currently on display at Johnson Art Collection and Regal Gallery in Los Angeles. Upcoming exhibitions will be held at Liquid Gallery in Los Angeles (autumn 2003) and Galeria des Artiste in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (November 2004). Mr. Easton’s framed mosaics are mounted on wooden panels for ease of handling and hanging for collectors. Commissions of custom originals are also available for architectural installations and outdoor display. Yet in whatever environment the art lover chooses to display it in – whether in a place of honor on that perfect wall or to draw the eye to an important architectural feature -- a mosaic by Christopher Easton will stand out as an object of beauty, quality, controversy, and fascination for generations to come.

“Really powerful. A perfect addition to my personal collection. The perfect accompaniment in the homes of my clients.”
